Selected to supply an integrated, flexible and ruggedised industrial connectivity solution for a German textile machinery manufacturer, Belden has worked with the system integrator h.team, their customer and machine builder Erhardt + Abt, to develop a fully-automated robot system that could be moved to any operations location without requiring modifications.
The textile manufacturer produces assembly parts for knitting machines and requires a high-level of precision and accuracy in its production process.
Robert Pakljec, Technical Director, Erhardt + Abt said: “For these intelligent processes to operate smoothly, we needed a signal transmission solution that could be installed quickly, operate reliably – even with extreme dust and vibrations – and would connect with standard cabling.”
Pakljec added: “To meet these challenging requirements, we worked with h.team to select Belden’s ruggedised LioN-R modules and M12 connectors.”
“When we considered daily environmental conditions in the manufacturer’s facilities, we knew they needed products that could withstand intense vibration and extreme temperatures,” said Karl-Heinz Schoeck, Sales Manager, h.team. “The integrated solution we offered complies with the IP67 protection class to ensure reliable operation in these conditions, and the standardised cabling was easy to install with ready-to-use connectors.”
Toni Hauert, Business Development Manager, Belden, commented: “The machine building sector is up against major space constraints. In this application, a single LioN-R module will meet the manufacturer’s requirements, and it also gives them flexibility to decide how to use any combination of input and output channels.”
Hauert added: “This not only enables fast and reliable signal transmission, but also reduces the amount of wiring needed, which will lower this manufacturer’s overall installation and maintenance costs.”
