Primary Engineer

The Institution of Primary Engineers and The Institution of Secondary Engineer has named Nick Ellins, CEO of Energy and Utility Skills as its first honorary fellow in the energy and utilities sector. The Institutions, launched at the House of Lords on 17th May, set out to continue the work of Dr Susan Scurlock MBE, who’s Primary Engineer organisation currently utilises a range of programmes to engage with over 60,000 pupils across the UK and over 4,000 teachers from primary schools upwards.

A fifteen year mission to bring engineering into primary classrooms has taken its most ambitious step yet as Primary Engineer officially launches - The Institution of Primary Engineers and The Institution of Secondary Engineers today. Both Institutions have been built for the digital age and are set to change the way skills are taught and nurtured in schools.

  An inspirational competition promoting engineering as a career of choice to young people across the region has been launched at Teesside University.

  A primary school in South East Northumberland is to become a county hub for STEM-specific teacher training following the launch of a new engineering initiative and training lab named in honour of Primary Engineer.

Susan Scurlock, CEO and Founder of Primary Engineer and its wider programmes has been awarded an MBE in the 2019 New Year’s Honours List for services to Education and Engineering across the UK. The honour is fitting recognition for Susan’s pioneering work that is helping reshape how young people are introduced to the skills needed for a career in engineering.

Canterbury Christ Church University and Primary Engineer Programmes have launched the 'If you were an engineer, what would you do?' competition across the South East. The competition, announced by The University’s Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Rama Thirunamachandran, Professor Helen James, Senior Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education, Enhancement and Student Experience) and Chris Rochester (UK Director Primary Engineer Programmes) will link schools across Kent, Essex, East Sussex with the University and engineering firms.
