NASA's Landsat Data Continuity Mission launched Feb. 11 from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. This joint NASA and U.S. Geological Survey mission will provide additional information to the longest continuous data record of Earth's surface as viewed from space. On-Board the Landsat 8 Satellite will be NASA GFSC space qualified temperature sensors.

Felix Baumgartner recently set a world record for skydiving. Jumping out of a helium balloon from a height of 24 miles, he landed ten minutes later after free falling at speeds up to 834.4 mph for about 4 minutes and then parachuting to the ground. This project was sponsored by Red Bull, an energy drink sold by the Austrian company Red Bull GmbH.

This sensor is available in ±10g, ±80g and ±500g dynamic ranges with an operating temperature range of -20 ºC through +80 ºC, non-linearity of ±1% and shock protection to 5000 g’s.

Measurement Specialties has just released to production its new urea dosing U86B media isolated analogue pressure sensor module, as well as added an “Absolute” pressure type for its existing model 86A. These amplified, ASIC calibrated sensors were designed to be mountable with o-ring seals for high performance, low pressure applications. These sensors utilize silicone oil to transfer pressure from its 316L stainless steel diaphragm to its sensing element.

Measurement Specialties’ ESP 32DTC Scanners Deployed in HIFIRE Missile Test
Measurement Specialties ESP 32DTC pressure scanners were recently deployed in a HIFIRE scramjet missile test designed to explore technologies required to achieve hypersonic flight. The missile was launched from the Pacific Missile Range Facility in Hawaii and climbed to an altitude of 100,000 feet while accelerating from speeds of Mach 6 to Mach 8.

EGCS-D0 Accelerometer Now Available in 10,000g Range
Measurement Specialties, Inc. has recently redesigned the EGCS-D0 accelerometer to enable it to accurately and reliably measure up to ±10,000g. This rugged device is critically damped, which is the ideal mechanism to protect the accelerometer against ±20,000g impacts and prevent sensor ringing. The EGCS-D0 accelerometer is now available in ranges from ±5g to ±10,000g which makes it ideal for both critical low-g measurements and high-g impacts.

Model 4807A High Resolution Accelerometer
Measurement Specialties, Inc. has just released to production its ultra low noise Model 4807A Accelerometer. This DC response accelerometer features micro-g resolution and offers an industry-first, remote auto zero function. The 4807A provides an amplified, signal conditioned output in ranges from ±2g to ±200g with a dynamic range of 98dB. This sensor incorporates a gas damped silicon MEMS sensing element with integral mechanical overload stops for shock protection up to 5,000g as well as a wide bandwidth from DC to 1500Hz.

TSYS01 Digital Temperature Sensor
Measurement Specialties, Inc. Model TSYS01 digital temperature sensor encapsulates a temperature sensing chip and a 24-bit ADC in a QFN16 package. This new technology provides on-board factory calibration coefficients that provide highly accurate temperature information accompanied by high measurement resolution. For improved performance specific to the application, custom calibration is available upon request. Integration with microcontrollers is achieved through an I2C or SPI interface.

Low Noise, High Resolution Triaxial Accelerometer for Structural Monitoring
Measurement Specialties, Inc. has just released to production the Model 4332 triaxial accelerometer. This COTS sensor features damped MEMS sensing technology, an amplified output and is packaged in a rugged aluminum housing with integral cable assembly. It is offered in ranges from ±2 and ±5g with a low-pass filter set at 50Hz. This temperature compensated device has an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C and complies with IP68 requirements for submersion in water to a ten meter depth.

Fluid Properties Sensor for Oil in Water Content

Measurement Specialties has just released its new fluid property sensor (HTM2500B3C4OIL) for measuring dissolved water in oil. This is critical data for oil system management as water consumes oil additives that can result in severe mechanical damages due to degradation of lubricant properties. This rugged device is specifically designed for OEM applications where cost-effectiveness, accuracy and reliability are critical.
