The GAMBICA Index is an indicator of the level of business for the industrial automation, process instrumentation and control, and laboratory technology sectors. It shows the levels of all three sectors individually and combined, using the 2006 data as a reference point.

GAMBICA has announced that Advantech Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) Group have become the latest new member in the Process Instrumentation and Control Sector. The Industrial IoT Group has grown into a global business organisation with more than 30 branch offices in 17 countries.

New group advises government on digital technology for industry
In the government’s green paper on Industrial Strategy published on 23rd January this year, a new review group was announced to be led by Juergen Maier, CEO of Siemens UK and Ireland, to advise on the opportunities and challenges for UK Industry offered by digital technology. The new group will be known as the Industrial Digitisation Review Leadership Team and is intended to work for six months producing the review report.

The trade association for instrumentation, control, automation and laboratory technology in the UK, GAMBICA has published the GAMBICA Guide - Internal arc fault capability of assemblies. The GAMBICA Controlgear Technical Committee has prepared this guide to assist users of low-voltage assemblies in making the right choice in respect of an internal arc fault capability for their application.

GAMBICA forms industrial network security group
GAMBICA has formed an industrial network security group to identify standards and best practice for members and their customers to help counter the threats of viruses, industrial sabotage and terrorism. The new group already has 19 members and came about as a result of feedback from other group members suggesting that this is an area of increasing interest to the automation industry.

GAMBICA calls for greater VSD awareness in purchasing following IEA white paper ~ UK automation trade body GAMBICA supports International Energy Agency findings ~
GAMBICA has responded to the International Energy Agency’s white paper ‘Energy-efficiency policy opportunities for electric motor-driven systems’ by calling for purchasing teams to take action to implement the IEA’s findings. The trade body also believes that machine builders and systems integrators can help reduce the energy demands of electrical motors by moving towards a standardised process for describing energy efficiency in quotations.

Overall reaction to Government targets positive, but trade body would like to see specific measures focussed on energy saving technology - Dr Graeme Philp, the chief executive of the trade body GAMBICA, has responded to the Government’s carbon budge
GAMBICA is the UK-based organisation which represents the instrumentation, control, automation and laboratory technology industries. Dr Philp argues that, while carbon reduction is a clear and present need, Government needs to address it in such a way that business in the UK remains on an equal footing with the rest of Europe. He believes that putting energy saving technology in the spotlight will help achieve this.
