Two Star Lathes Sold In Half An Hour
Within half an hour of Star GB's in-house exhibition opening on the morning of Tuesday 12th October 2010, precision turned parts subcontractor, Swissmatic, Wishaw, had placed an order for two SR-20RIII sliding-head bar auto's. It brought the company's total purchases of Star multi-axis CNC lathes in 2010 to seven.
During the three-day exhibition at Star's Melbourne technical centre in Derbyshire, a further order for two machines was taken on the Thursday from Astec Precision. As a result, this subcontractor will soon be operating 12 Star sliding-head lathes at its Ulverston factory in Cumbria.

As usual, the middle day of the show was the busiest. By Wednesday evening there were 60 people sitting down to a special Star dinner and enjoying a lively exchange of ideas and banter.

Bob Hunt, managing director of Star GB, commented, We were a little concerned at the outset that, so soon after MACH, the attendance level might be lower than usual, but we need not have worried.

The fact that we were showing for the first time two fixed-head lathes, having offered exclusively sliding-head lathes up till now, gave people extra incentive to come and see what was new.

By the end of the show we had met with over 120 visitors from 64 companies and now have a rejuvenated enquiry list that will undoubtedly secure a successful fourth quarter for us.
