Trane Launches Series R® RTWD, Third Generation, Water-Cooled Chiller
Building owners are facing increasingly stringent financial and regulatory demands that require them to maximize building performance. With the launch of the third generation Series R® RTWD water-cooled chiller, Trane meets customer demand for energy efficiency and couples it with increased reliability. Suited for both industrial and commercial applications, the RTWD is now available in India.
The RTWD, a 200-800 kW helical rotary screw water-cooled chiller, is Eurovent-certified Class A. It includes a falling film evaporator that can achieve efficiencies of up to 5.6 Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER), minimizing the expense of operating a chilled water system which can amount to over 90 percent of the total lifetime cost of a heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) system. A power meter function is integrated, giving instant indicators of exactly how much power the compressor is consuming. The direct drive compressor uses fewer moving parts than any gear driven device, resulting in a reliability rate of 99 percent in the first year of operation. To further increase reliability, the RTWD incorporates a double circuit that serves as a back-up system to ensure a continuous supply of chilled water.

“Energy usage is a building’s largest operating expense making energy efficiency a top priority for building owners,” said Rajesh Sikka, district leader for Trane in India. “The RTWD can operate with a dry cooler and in heat pump or heat recovery applications. This means reduced energy consumption and better overall building efficiency.”

Built to handle applications that require high condensing temperatures, the RTWD offers tight temperature control in commercial or industrial environments. The RTWD can be part of a multiple chiller system using Trane Chiller Plant Control or can be integrated in a heating, ventilating and air conditioning system with a building management system such as Trane’s Tracer Summit™.

The RTWD has precise temperature control (+/-0.3º C), as well as advanced adaptive algorithms and preventative unit safeties that keep the system running at all conditions. It also has water and electrical connection options and a small footprint that allows it to fit through a single width door, minimizing installation time and expense.
