Scorpion Partners Computer Power Protection To Safeguard Power At The Royal Courts Of Justice
As well as refurbishing the Mechanical and Electrical installations in the Queen’s Building at the Royal Courts of Justice, principal contractors, Structuretone, has also added two mezzanine floors to provide accommodation for the Family Division Associates and a dedicated training and conference suite. Turning to emergency power protection specialist, Computer Power Protection (CPP), to provide standby power for these new facilities as well as its CCTV, computers and communications, CPP has installed an integrated power protection solution from Scorpion Power Systems.
Following a detailed survey of the building it was agreed that supporting a critical power protection network would involve the installation of a Scorpion DV 358 three-phase diesel generator. The generator has been equipped with the capability to self-test each week and an auto dial-out facility so that the system can be remotely checked.

Mounted within the AMF (Auto Mains Failure) control panel, Scorpion’s Remote Dial Out detects problems before they turn into disasters. The Remote Dial Out monitors the generator and if a fault occurs automatically contacts up to four different numbers in sequence.

Scorpion has fitted the set with a dual water jacket heater to aid cold starting and a steel bund in accordance with the latest environmental regulations to retain any diesel spillage. The generator is also equipped with bespoke attenuation, inlet and outlet louvers and manufactured exhaust system. A Scorpion supplied pumped fuel system completes the installation. The addition of a Powercare Premier maintenance contract has ensured that the standby power system will always be maintained to the highest level and ready to take over and support the load should an power failure occur.

“Over many years Computer Power Protection has received excellent service from Scorpion Power Systems and so I didn’t hesitate to contact them when the decision was made to install the power support system at the Queen’s Building at the Royal Courts of Justice”, said Trevor Walker, Consultant at Computer Power Protection. “The specialised delivery, mechanical installation and commissioning was all carried by Scorpion with minimum disruption to staff and services. Scorpion’s power support system will ensure that the judicial system will not be inconvenienced when a powercut occurs”, he concluded.
