Positioning system kills two birds with one stone

Ready for Industry 4.0 is the PMI F90 inductive positioning system from Pepperl+Fuchs, which can precisely detect the absolute position of one actuator as well as the distance between two. Thanks to IO-Link technology, the system has communication functionality and is equipped for I4.0 applications. Patented multi-coil technology helps ensure maximum measurement accuracy.

PMI F90 with 80mm measuring range

The new PMI F90 inductive positioning system works with a patented multi-coil system. The absolute position of the actuator is precisely detected from the measuring signals of a single coil. In addition to sending the analogue position signal, switch points can also be defined. The sensor can detect two actuators as well as the distance between them, meaning that dynamic positioning tasks can be completed with the smallest amount of measuring technology.

The device enables continuous data flow thanks to its IO-Link interface, in particular for applications featuring Industry 4.0 architecture. Event logs, error messages, signal quality data, device status, and operating hours can all be read directly by the IO-Link master.

The PMI F112 and PMI F166 sensors from this product family are available for confined areas and harsh environments. The compact design allows these sensors to be installed in the tightest of spaces while the robust metal housing protects them from external influences.

The advantages of the inductive measuring principle apply to all devices: non-contact, low wear and maintenance-free, dirt resistant, and resistant to interference. All steel components or objects can generally
be used as actuators since the inductive system is not reliant on a magnetic actuator.
