During nine months of monitoring, Gas Data’s instrumentation was utilised to check on the methane-rich biogas which was emitting freely into the atmosphere from eight open wastewater treatment lagoons.
Combusting the recovered methane saw the establishment of an anaerobic system consisting of covered pond(s) and floating plastic membranes to capture the biogas, with an electricity generation facility consisting of two, 633 kW renewable biogas energy generation units.
For emergency reasons and for when the gas engines are not in operation, a flare was installed. This biogas capture and flaring system has a removal efficiency of 90%.
