Variohm EuroSensor adds intrinsically safe pressure and level switching and sensing components

With new Ex-approved pressure switches, level sensors and pressure transmitters from the German sensor manufacturer ADZ NAGANO, Variohm EuroSensor has extended its range of intrinsically-safe sensing and switching components. The new sensors will suit a variety of applications across chemical, oil & gas, HVAC, food & beverage and general engineering where ATEX certified approval is a prerequisite.

The DPX9I and DPSXU electronic pressure switches, respectively equipped for current or voltage output from a 14-32 VDC input, comprise an intrinsically safe and detachable measuring cell with a cable connection to the separate panel mounted evaluation electronics, which is mounted outside hazardous area. The measuring cell is available in several nominal pressure ranges from 0…5 mbar up to 0…2000 bar with generous overload and burst pressure ratings. Silicon membrane technology is used for pressures below 500 mbar whilst stainless steel membrane and wetted materials are used the upper ranges to suit gases and solid media at temperatures from -40°C to +100°C. With Ex-approval II 1G Ex ia IIC T4 (ATEX), the cell design includes a choice of pressure connections and features protective circuits for reverse polarity, excess voltage resistance and limitation of performance loss in case of failure. The evaluation electronics includes two pnp high-side switch-signal outputs that are set within a 4…20 mA or 0…10 VDC range depending upon the cell output type. Set-up is made easy via input keys and an LCD readout display on the evaluation electronics.

ADZ’s intrinsically safe PSX2 level sensor is available in a choice of silicon or stainless steel diaphragm technology for measuring ranges from 1 mWC to 250 mWC, (pressure ranges from 0..0.10 bar to 0…150 bar). With Explosion-proof certification for Zone 0 (II 1G Ex ia IIB T4) and Zone 1 (II 2G Ex ia IIC T4) the IP68 rated sensor suits filling level measurement in tanks, vessels, and liquid systems for ATEX approved devices. The 4…20mA output sensor can be supplied in a choice of plastic or stainless steel casings.

The SMX2 intrinsically safe pressure transmitter can used in both zone 0 (II 1G Ex ia IIB T4 or II 1G Ex ia IIC T4) and zone 1 (II 2G Ex ia IIC T4) and meets the requirements of Directive 94/9/EC. With semiconductor thin-film technology, silicon or stainless diaphragms and pressure ranges from 10 mbar to 2000 bar, its wide choice of pressure connectors and cabled or connectorised electrical interfaces ensure flexibility in use across a wide variety of industrial applications. As with all of ADZ’s intrinsically safe and other specialist pressure measurement components, the SMX features a high precision, robust and compact design that includes protective circuits that guarantee against inverse-polarity and overvoltage resistance.
