Bernstein unveils three new safety switches

Switches, sensors and enclosures specialist, Bernstein Ltd, has introduced three new double protection switches to its range of products, in response to demand from industries needing durable and reliable solutions for safety facilities and position monitoring.

Officially launched at Southern Manufacturing 2016, all three – the IN62, IN65 and I49 – these being double insulated position switches have a high protection classification of IP67, meaning they’re fully dust-proof and will function normally even if submerged up to a depth of 1m of water for a period of 30 minutes, as well as meeting the highest industry safety standards.

Managing Director Rob Emms said: “We are constantly listening to our customers to find out what products they need and found a demand for these new switches which can be used by many industries and environments.

“These new switches should make it easier for anyone needing solutions for uses such as monitoring of safety gates, hatches or protective hoods; position monitoring of moving parts; object detection in conveying technology; end position control of components; position monitoring on rolling doors; or monitoring of sliding doors.”

Southern Manufacturing attendees were impressed by the switches’ unique features and compatibility with vast number of applications across a range of industry sectors and environments. Business Development Manager, Paul Sharp, explains:

“Bernstein have exhibited at Southern Manufacturing for the past seven consecutive years, and have always received a number of high calibre sales leads as a result. I am delighted that the 2016 event did not disappoint, with the majority of stand visitors interested in our new switch products – particularly the I49 and its ability to offer improved safety and advanced position monitoring within a confined space.”

With its slim dimensions, the I49 is the perfect solution where space is restricted and high ingress protection is required. Different actuators on the I49 such as metal plungers, metal roller plungers, nylon roller plungers (for front mounting) or nylon roller levers enable flexible applications, even in the roughest of conditions.

The I49 is a type 1 switch, according to safety standard ISO 14119, and, with a suitable system layout, can be used up to performance level e. It also has positively driven NC contacts according to IEC 60947-5.

Bernstein’s IN62 and IN65 switches also boast desirable features – combining metal mounting clips and metal actuator locks, to provide the economic advantages of using plastic bodied switch, with the robust offering of the more expensive metal bodied ones. The metal clip also allows tool-free turning of actuator elements and tool-free changing of actuators while the modular design reduces storage costs and its flexibility allows each customer to develop their own bespoke solution.

Both the IN62 and IN65 conform to DIN EN 50047 and boast standard dimensions with a wide range of contacts and actuators meaning they can be applied in safety facilities and position monitoring in virtually any industrial application. They have a mechanical life of 30 million switching cycles while ensuring a switching reliability of 1 mA for 5 V DC.

Bernstein also showcased a number of its other industry leading products at Southern Manufacturing 2016, including Rope Pull Switches, Industrial Enclosures, Safety Light Curtains, Control Enclosures and Suspension Systems, and Safety Switches for Machinery Guards.
