Vane pump features low speed capability architecture

Eaton has launched a new VSQ (Vane-Speed-Quiet) pump series designed to provide operators with a minimum speed range of 0-50 RPM to decrease energy usage and improve efficiency in dynamic industrial applications like injection moulding, metal forming, die casting and press brake.

The new VSQ vane pumps combines the features of vane pumps with 0 RMP low speed capable architecture to support efficiency and energy savings up to 70%. Combined with high speed and high operating pressure features, this pump is an energy-efficient choice over internal gear and piston pumps for industrial applications.

“This technology makes the VSQ series pumps ideal for dynamic applications like injection moulding where pressure holding is critical,” said Giuseppe Scozzarella, Product Manager Industrial Hydraulic Portfolio EMEA. “The pump is also designed for use in applications like press brake, blow moulding and die casting, as well as applications in the oil and gas, utility, machine tool, port machinery, and entertainment industries.”

These VSQ vane pumps feature a minimum speed range between 0-50RPM and maximum speed up to 3,000RPM. The new VSQ series is also capable of a two quadrant operation:  pump and motor for the decompression phase. Eaton’s technology includes a special Cam ring in the VSQ vane pump to help ensure a continuous high pressure port in pump and motor operations.

High operating pressures of up to 290 bar reduce pump sizes and the small size helps minimise installation costs. The Eaton VSQ vane pump forms a compact unit in combination with flange and E-motor. Proven reliability, durability and easy on-site serviceability also help owners cut maintenance costs and reduce down-time.

The modular design allows for flexibility in displacement, mounting and port options. A cartridge kit design feature allows for easy repair and interchangeability between pumps.

These pumps combine high efficiency with low noise characteristics making them an excellent choice for many industrial sectors and especially for variable speed drive applications. The proven performance and power density of Eaton’s pump families, combined with the smart control of Eaton Variable Speed Drives, enable these systems to achieve power more efficiently than conventional constant-speed drive pump systems.

Instead of operating constantly at high constant speed, Eaton’s Variable Speed Drive pumps can match the workload requirements of the current duty cycle by using intelligent control. This eliminates energy waste and can help decrease energy usage by up to 70%, depending on the machine duty cycle.
