igus to show its dynamic cabling solutions at Sensors + Systems 2011
At this year’s Sensors + Systems show at FIVE in Farnborough, igus UK will be launching the latest additions to its chainflex® cables that are developed specifically for use in dynamic applications.
In a seminar held at during the event, igus will also discuss the importance of selecting the right cabling solution for dynamic applications and show common problems in this area, and generic solutions in cable design needed to ensure systems and sensors are not impacted by motion.

“More and more machines have moving parts that require services supplied to them: air, water, hydraulics and electrical power and data,” says Justin Leonard of igus UK. “Standard electrical cables, for example, usually have a simple construction that is not generally sympathetic to dynamic applications; repeated bending of copper cable cores at small radii can cause work-hardening and fracturing, stressed cables can corkscrew or even burst the outer jacket under the strain. A well designed dynamic cable will have several features that can combine together to combat these three failure modes. This becomes of even greater importance with sensor and data cables as the transmission of data is more sensitive than power or signal; issues such as EMC screening and attenuation become more critical”

Also on display will be a range of igus energy chains, which are fabricated from high performance plastics – they are tough, resistant to corrosion and impact offering high UV, temperature and precipitation stability, they are lubricant-free so require no maintenance and have very long working lives, making them a very cost-effective choice. They are also available in ATEX-ESD compliant versions, and have been proven by test to function reliably even at extreme temperatures and in adverse weather conditions.

Visitors to the igus stand will also be introduced to its readycable® programme, which offers 1,600 pre-harnessed drive cables according to 20 manufacturer standards – including Allen Bradley, Siemens, Bekhhoff, Danaher and Rexroth. It is a complete system, comprising igus chainflex cables, at any required length, a choice of outer jacket materials PVC, TPE or PUR, plugs, connectors and energy chain, offered as simple or as complex as required and 100 percent functionality checked. This reduces the leadtime for the design, purchase and assembly considerably, and a complete readycable system can be tailor-made to meet with any project requirement and will be assembled and delivered within three to ten days.

Throughout the exhibition, experts from igus UK will be on hand to provide advice and guidance on selecting energy and cabling assemblies for your own specific application.
