High servo power in ultra-compact design

The latest addition to JVL Industri Elektronik’s integrated servo motor range - the 1.5 kW rated MAC1500 - is now available from its UK distribution partner Mclennan. The MAC1500 sits neatly in the MACmotor range of brushless servo motors complete with integrated AC servo drive, hall sensor, encoder feedback, optional brake and comprehensive motion controls, with power ratings from 400 to 3000 Watts. At just 182 mm nominal length and flange mount dimensions of 130 x 130 mm, this amazingly compact integrated servo drive matches the size of tradition servo motors without drives for its 5/15 Nm continuous/peak torque power rating.

With 3x400 VAC direct online power and 24 VDC for the control circuit, the MAC1500 is a decentralised drive that offers machine builders simplified installation with much reduced wiring. Users can choose ±10V or pulse/direction for speed or torque control from a central motion controller, or select optional programmable expansion modules that include industrial Ethernet protocols for synchronised multi-axis motion like Profinet, EtherCAT, and Ethernet/IP as well as many other fieldbus protocols such as CANopen, DeviceNet, and Profibus. A choice of absolute or incremental encoder is available whilst a complement of on-board IOs offer possibilities for high speed position registration and general machine control interaction. Additional options include Safe Torque Off to ensure safe working of moving axes. All electrical interfacing to the MAC1500 and its expansion module options are via highest quality DSUB or M12 connectors, or leads with cable glands.

Mechanically, the new MAC1500 is well and truly durable with an aluminium housing, a choice of paint finishes and protection ratings to IP67. The integrated servo is built to withstand the typical temperatures and vibration levels for industrial use. A wide optional choice of high-reliability worm, planetary and cycloidal (robot) gear units for use with the MAC1500 are available from McLennan. The range includes special versions for high axial and radial shaft loads, sealed bearing and extremely low backlash designs.

Commissioning tools for set-up, test and adjustment of motion systems for the full MACmotor range is made easy with JVL’s MacTalk PC software which includes ActiveX controls for Visual Basic, C++ and .Net application development.
