A series of short and concise whitepapers have been recently published by Midwest Motion Products (MMP) which are available online. The first two to be released which are attached below, provide readers with some basic, yet critical guidelines on how to apply DC Motors and Gearmotors.
The papers entitled; 'Quick Tips for Successful DC Motor and Gearmotor Operation' and 'Accelerated Life Testing, Intermittent Duty DC Motors and Gearmotors' include tips which are designed to help users apply Motors and Motion Control equipment with greater success and improved results.
The first document reviews the need to understand the required torque values, measuring current draw, to voltage drop and proper conductor sizing, to mechanical alignment issues, and the need for electrical protection from accidental overload conditions, to name a few.
The second document reviews how temperature rise can actually cause the parameters within a motor to change, thus altering the performance and ultimately skewing the results, unfavorably. Furthermore, it includes a useful chart, published by 'NEMA' (National Electrical Manufacturer’s Association) which identifies the Insulation System Classifications for motors.
