Companies expand portfolio with optimised VFDs

Partnering up with Brother Gearmotors, a division of Brother International Corporation, American Control Electronics (ACE) will now offer its selection of variable frequency drives (VFDs), through Brother Gearmotors, as a product add-on to its portfolio of ultra-reliable, sub-fractional AC gearmotors and reducers.

OEM customers benefit by having easy access to an optimised VFD for the Brother sub-fractional power range, instead of purchasing an off-the-shelf VFD that may not be the best fit for the application. For example, a customer that buys a sub-fractional HP (1/100th to 1/6th HP) gear motor may have to choose a VFD rated for 1/4HP.

Dan Schnabel, President of ACE said: “We already had a successful OEM-based VFD platform, so were able to optimise our VFD for the Brother sub-fractional power range, all while providing a smaller footprint and a competitive price.”

Schnabel added: “This was really a case of simplicity being a form of sophistication.”

ACE’s microprocessor- based VFDs control AC motor speed and torque by varying input frequency and voltage, which allows for more precise speed control and reduced energy consumption. VFDs are particularly suitable for gearmotors in machines found in sectors including packing, materials handling, food processing and industrial applications.
