Raspberry Pi powers modular industrial PC

Immediate availability of the entirely open-source IPC Revolution Pi which is EN61131-3 certified and suitable for small industrial control applications is announced by Conrad Business Supplies. It includes the basis module RevPi Core, three digital I/O and 12 Gateway module options.

Based upon the Raspberry Pi compute module, the RevPi Core is compatible with a Raspberry Pi model B+.

The unit is based upon a Broadcom BCM2835 700MHz processor and includes 500MB of RAM and 4GB of Flash memory.

The RevPi Core is firmly aimed at industrial applications in sometimes challenging environments. To achieve this an advanced and highly efficient 24V power supply ensures minimal heat generation.

The extreme wide range DC-DC converter can operate at voltages as low as 10.7V allowing operation from solar systems or vehicle batteries, for example. The rugged supply can tolerate 10ms voltage dropout at full load (or 25ms with no load).

A sophisticated suppressor (that has been tested in certified laboratories) guarantees operation in electrically noisy environments.

The RevPi Core boasts many connectivity options; two USB-A sockets on the front panel allow the connection of USB 2.0 client devices, a micro-USB socket connects to a USB host system for programming the installed eMMC flash and an RJ45 Ethernet socket for LAN connectivity.

An external visualisation can be connected on the top of the device using a micro-HDMI connection.

Raspbian (a Debian variant) with RT patch is included as an operating system. Every Revolution Pi system is supplied with PiCtory configuration software.

Housed in a compact 96mm x 22.5mm x 110.5mm cap rail package, the rugged industrial PC operates in ambient temperatures between -40 to +55°C.

“With extensive software support, the RevPi Core is easy to configure and use and we expect to see it at the heart of many industrial systems”, adds Kunbus’ CEO Dr. Martin Kunschert.
