New smart modular PLC is compact and communicative

Enabling machine and system builders to bring streamlined, modern automation concepts to life, the new XC300 modular PLC from Eaton is useful, especially when combined with the XN300 I/O system and XV300 touch panel. With high performance communication features, the modular controller’s fast cycle times enables higher productivity rates for the machine.

Thanks to its various interfaces, the controller is suitable as a universal and flexible data node for a wide range of applications. An integrated OPC server enables standardised data transfer in M2M communication, facilitating seamless integration into the automation architecture and creating a simple path towards Industry 4.0.

The Linux-based system is programmed using CODESYS 3 and supports many commonly-used interfaces and field bus protocols, from CANopen, easyNet and Modbus RTU through EtherCAT, Modbus TCP, Ethernet/IP all the way to OPC UA/Scada.

In modular machines, networked plant and production concepts the XC300 demonstrates its advantages through its high flexibility. The controller allows the operation of three different Ethernet networks based on different network addresses. For example, individual networks can be set up for mobile, M2M and SCADA communication. In this way, the security and performance aspects can be optimally matched to the network. The controller also provides its own supply feeder over four I/O channels.

Integrated web servers support CODESYS 3 visualisation and device administration, with HTML5 capability for display on smartphones and tablet devices. Established programmes and libraries are supported for all XC and XV devices, saving redevelopment time and associated costs. They can be copied quickly and easily onto other devices for serial production using a micro SD card or a USB stick.

Eaton applies current communications and security standards to protect equipment and systems against unauthorised access. The XC300 supports both cryptographic authentication mechanisms (TLS/IPSec) and certificate-based authorisation.

As with the XN300 I/O system, the XC300 controller clips securely onto the DIN rail. One XC300 can control up to 32 XN300 expansion modules. The practical installation concept and the plug-in connection levels make installation in the tightest areas simple and pre-assembly of stations possible.

With its XC300, XN300 and XV300 product lines, Eaton now offers equipment and plant engineers the opportunity to design consistent and future-proof automation architectures that support Industry 4.0 concepts and add value for their customers. The XC300 and XN300 remote I/O system create a compact, space-saving unit, while the XV300 panel handles HMI visualisation, with its high resolution capacitive multi-touch display.

Eaton's visualisation software Galileo and XN300 Assist software tool, along with CODESYS programming software, support existing and new automation systems and allow fast and easy implementation of projects.
