The annual awards ceremony for SELECT, the industry body for Scotland's electrical sector, taking place in October, has added a brand new category to this year’s event. Along with regular categories that include Electrical Contractor of the Year, SJIB/Edmundson Apprentice of the Year and Lifetime Achievement –a new prize focuses on the distributor/wholesaler with the introduction of the Electrical Distributors’ Association (EDA) Scottish Section Apprentice of the Year.

Stepping up its campaign, SELECT, the influential trade body for Scotland's electrical sector are keen to make it a legal requirement for electricians to be regulated by the Scottish Parliament. It is launching a widespread media campaign to highlight the dangers of using unqualified people to carry out electrical work and to press for official recognition of electricians as a profession.

Ready, set, go is what we are about to hear at the Toolbox Talks Tour starts, the nationwide event which takes the latest developments in Scotland's electrotechnical industry to the widest possible number of trade professionals. Registration for the hotly-anticipated evenings will open next week and the demand for places is likely to be even greater than 2016 when nearly 500 delegates attended the roadshows across the length and breadth of Scotland.

The Prince’s Trust Scotland, SELECT (the trade association for the electrical contracting industry in Scotland) and the Scottish Electrical Charitable Training Trust (SECTT), set up a programme which has just doubled in size after its second successful year. This programme, ‘Get Into Electrical Installation’, is a six week mix of residential and work placement available to young people selected by the Prince’s Trust Scotland.
