Olmec-UK has partnered with Universal Converting Equipment to produce a vision system capable of real-time measurement of laser machined holes in film. The vision system is mounted directly onto the web, which runs at 350m/min. Lasers are used to perforate the extruded web material with hole sizes from 30 – 120 µm depending on the particular requirement.

Olmec-UK has installed the first Quality Station vision system at a leading healthcare product manufacturer. The system is being used to inspect a range of plastic and glass bottles and cylindrical containers. It checks for the presence, height and angle of bottle caps and to make sure that they are securely located. Fill levels are also checked for transparent bottles.

Vision systems integrator, Olmec, has introduced the QS and QS+ turnkey, self-contained vision inspection systems as part of the ‘Quality Station’ range. With a footprint of just 1.2 m x 0.7 m, they are easily added to the manufacturing environment to provide in-line inspection. Featuring an integral transport and reject mechanism, they can be used in conjunction with other quality inspection tools such as checkweighers or on their own.

Olmec-UK has developed a new, modular easy-to-use user interface that allows engineers to easily make adjustments to any Olmec production-line vision system without needing to be vision experts. Configured to run in the Windows 7 environment using a large touchscreen, the new VP3 user interface is a flexible platform that features modules for 1D and 2D code reading, human readable codes, defect inspection, blister pack inspection, part presence, colour verification and high accuracy gauging and measurement.

Olmec-UK, has designed and installed a machine vision system to determine the integrity of droppers for products such as ear drops at the final packaging stage. The system, built for a leading UK-based manufacturer of over the counter healthcare products, checks that the droppers are correct prior to them being placed in the carton with the product.

The new code reading systems were introduced to improve efficiency in production by checking labels to eliminate those with partial print, missing print or smudged print before they are applied to the product. In order to accommodate the widely differing lot code demands and requirements worldwide together with numerous background label colours, Olmec developed a system based on an Omron SC2M 2 Megapixel colour camera connected to an Omron FZ-9 vision controller which enables the use of multi threading for high speed processing.

Olmec-UK, has successfully implemented a custom designed high speed in-line code reading system to meet the track and trace code reading requirements for CIP13, now mandatory in France. The system, fully integrated into the control system at a leading healthcare manufacturer, provides 100% reading and verification of codes on cartons and is capable of read rates up to 1200 cartons/min.

Vision systems integrator, Olmec-UK will be showing its versatile new VP2-CR code reading system for standard and hi-speed character recognition and verification on labels at the PPMA Show. The VP2-CR provides a simple, graphical user interface using a touch screen controller to allow the system to be set up for any type of label in just 3 menu-driven steps.

Originally developed to meet the stringent requirements of the healthcare industry, the self-contained Olmec VP2-CR offers fully validated character recognition, character verification and robust 2D data matrix handling and grading, and can be used for tasks ranging from simple verification through to GS1 and CIP13 conformance.
