There will need to be a focus on upskilling and digitisation from Sussex manufacturers, in order to reap the benefits of ‘Industry 4.0’ – the so-called fourth industrial revolution. The latest meeting of METALL (the Manufacturing, Engineering and Technology Alliance), a forum for south coast and Gatwick diamond businesses in the sector, heard that while robotics, 3D printing and artificial intelligence offered potential for productivity gains, there were structural barriers to overcome.

Innovation taken to market at METALL #2
After the successful launch of the new Manufacturing, Engineering and Technology Alliance (METALL) back in July, METALL #2 is the latest event also receiving a good response from local manufacturing, engineering and technology businesses. They joined hosts Gatwick and south coast-based accountants and tax advisers Carpenter Box, solicitors’ asb law and recruitment agency CBSbutler for the event at the Roffey Park Institute near Horsham.

Regional alliance launches for manufacturers & engineers

A new regional alliance sponsored by Gatwick and Sussex-based chartered accountants, Carpenter Box and asb law is launching on 12th July. The Manufacturing, Engineering and Technology Alliance (METALL) aims to bring together businesses in these sectors in Sussex and south Surrey to promote good practice, share experience and provide problem solving opportunities between peers.
