In unpredictable times like these, many manufacturers may find themselves with unintentional 'build-ahead' programmes on their hands. Sadly, much stock that has been produced to meet normal order demands may suddenly be sitting unshipped or unused, waiting for assembly to start up again.

According to the company, proper corrosion management in design and manufacturing as well as construction phases significantly decreases operation and maintenance costs over the life of many assets. It can often be necessary to use corrosive seawater, brine solutions, or deicing chemicals for municipal and industrial applications, but these can create a major problem for any metals in the system. Cortec’s new brochure, “VpCI Additives for Deicing Salts and Fluids,” describes additives to combat these  corrosive fluids containing salts. VpCI additives form a thin molecular corrosion inhibiting layer that adsorbs on the surface of the metal, displacing existing water, chlorides, or other corrosive contaminants on the surface. 

Cortec’s MCI-309 is said to be a powerful Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibitor powder for corrosion protection of ferrous metals and aluminum in recessed areas, interior cavities and voids. It provides an extremely efficient dry method protecting metals within an enclosed space.

Another step has been taken by Cortec towards vertical integration, cost cutting, and customisation with a new on-demand box-making machine at Cortec Coated Products (CCP). CCP, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin manufactures Cortec’s versatile line of non-toxic, recyclable VpCI papers that protect metal parts from corrosion during storage and shipment. With its new box machine, the plant will now be able to make its own packing boxes and expand into active production of VpCI CorrTainer boxes, as well.

Providing convenient, environmentally friendly solutions to corrosion problems is Cortec. One of those important innovative solutions is the EcoAir VpCI-337 Fogger, which is a convenient way to get the excellent tried-and-true corrosion protection of VpCI-337 in an easy-to-use spray can powered by compressed air.

A Super Barrier version of Cortec’s EcoShield VpCI-144 paper has been developed for protecting metal parts from corrosion. Combining the corrosion protection of VpCI paper coating with a high gloss water-based barrier coating, the EcoShield VpCI-144 Super Barrier is preventative of moisture from reaching metal parts wrapped inside the paper.
