Mechatronic system is one-tenth the size of its predecessors

A mechatronic system, specifically developed as a self-contained drive system for adding an extra NC axis to machine tools, is now being offered in a compact version. MAPAL's TOOLTRONIC mechatronic system is available in just one-tenth the physical size of its predecessors. This makes it a particularly attractive option for retrofitting in the control panels of existing machines, where the available space is often very limited.

The TOOLTRONIC system provides an additional full NC axis that is completely integrated with the machine tool control system, which means that even advanced functions like interpolation and wear compensation can be fully utilised. With the new compact version of the TOOLTRONIC system, it is possible to call up and evaluate detailed status information relating to the additional U axis via a touchscreen display, not only during normal machine operation but also during commissioning. No PC or other external equipment is required, which makes machine set up faster, easier and much more convenient.

If errors exist, they can be very quickly analysed and corrected using the facilities and information provided by the TOOLTRONIC stator box. A comprehensive range of application tools, which add significant extra value, is also supplied. To further enhance the versatility of the TOOLTRONIC system, the high precision EAT (eccentric actuating tool) range designed for high speeds and modified strokes has now been expanded to include a new LAT (linear actuating tool) series. By using integrated unbalance protection, this caters for applications involving high speeds and long strokes of over 100 mm.

Also available is the new TOOLTRONIC-S which incorporates an end-position control system designed for use in conjunction with mechanical actuating tools. This arrangement provides a cost-effective solution for challenging machining applications, such as recess and facing operations in large-scale production, without the need for an additional feed unit or special purpose complex machines.
