Jon Dennison Bursary Fund helps young people realise their potential

Throughout his distinguished career in aerospace and engineering the late Jon Dennison was committed to enabling young people to realise their potential. Through his work chairing the Engagement Group of the Aerospace Growth Partnership he made a significant impact in promoting careers in aerospace to young people of all education entry levels.

It is therefore appropriate that a bursary fund is being established in his honour that will enable young people from disadvantaged backgrounds – for example from schools or neighbourhoods with low university participation rates – to progress their interest in a career in engineering, particularly in aerospace.

The bursary fund was launched at the Farnborough Air Show on 12th July and is being administered through the Aerospace Industrial Cadet Programme, an initiative supported by the APG’s Skills Working Group and the education/business engagement charity EDT. The bursary fund will offer selected young people free places on EDT Headstart Courses, enabling them to spend time on short courses at UK universities before making their UCAS application and so allowing them to make important degree choices on the basis of real experience.

Jon’s children Megan, Francisca and Dylan welcomed the new bursary fund saying:

"Our father was always passionate about helping young people who have ambitions, but are restricted in accessing the tools and platforms to assist them in achieving their goals.

“This was something extremely important to him as he believed that every young person deserved the opportunity to learn, and hoped that one day he would be in a position to make a difference to people that faced these challenges.

“It saddens us that he is no longer here to carry out his plans but he would be incredibly proud that he is leaving behind a legacy which will help so many young people make something of themselves. He was an incredible man with a massive heart and we are so proud to have his name associated to this wonderful scheme and wish everyone involved huge success.”

Companies, students, parents or schools looking to find out more about the Jon Dennison Bursary Fund should in the first instance contact the Director of Industrial Cadets here.
