Intergraph Smart Construction boosts power industry productivity

With the aim to boost productivity during the delivery of power projects across five continents, Korea’s Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction (DHIC) has selected Intergraph Smart Construction. DHIC was seeking a construction quantities management solution using 3D technology that would improve construction information management, specifically the millions of details and numerous complex variables it handles.

Smart Construction impressed DHIC with its ability to combine information from various sources such as 3D models to create accurate work packages containing detailed construction steps, quantities and work hours. Additionally, Smart Construction’s 4D capabilities helped DHIC to verify best construction sequence of the scheduled work package to optimise labour productivity.

“Smart Construction allows us to achieve better construction material management of our projects,” said Young Geun Lee, DHIC’s Engineering Innovation team leader. “It provides us with access to the most accurate information, such as construction quantities, to make more informed decisions.”

Mattias Stenberg, President of Hexagon PPM, said: “We are pleased that Smart Construction has helped DHIC to improve the accuracy of the information available, which allows for better management of construction material so projects are delivered on-time, on-budget and in the safest and most efficient manner.”

Smart Construction helps construction planners more efficiently plan and manage fabrication and construction projects, resulting in enhanced safety, increased quality and improved productivity. Using current information from various sources such as 3D models, 2D engineering tools, materials management, project controls and scheduling systems, Smart Construction ensures that accurate and timely decisions can be made on the most up-to-date information needed for optimised construction planning and execution. Users can view/filter 3D models and drawings with enhanced 4D animation to verify the construction sequence with powerful new pre-configured filters and selection rules for a 3D model.
