Audit of Hong Kong power station to discuss health and safety

Chief Executive of the British Safety Council, Mike Robinson, is meeting with the management of Hargreaves Industrial Services in Hong Kong to discuss the forthcoming best practice health and safety audit of the Hong Kong Power Station, which Hargreaves operates. The British Safety Council, a charity, campaigning body and membership organisation that was founded 60 years ago, has a vision thatno one should be injured or made ill at work.’

It has been working with businesses in the Far East, including Hong Kong, to improve health, safety and environmental management for the benefit of both workers and the organisation as a whole.

Hargreaves Industrial Services, a subsidiary of the Hargreaves Services, is a leading provider of operational, maintenance and facility management services to customers in the energy, waste, steel and transport sectors. With annual revenues of £340m and over 2,000 employees, the company delivers key projects and services in the infrastructure, energy and property sectors.

Commenting on Mike Robinson’s meeting with Hargreaves in Hong Kong, David Parr, Head of Audit at the British Safety Council, said: “Hargreaves have been using the British Safety Council's five-star audit process across its Industrial Services to benchmark the company’s current occupational health and safety management systems against best practice and to ensure continual improvement in this area of their business.”

Parr continued: “The audit at the Hong Kong power station later this year will enable the organisation to monitor the current status of health and safety management at the site against recognised international standards and maintain the continual improvement of operational arrangements.”

Parr added: The British Safety Council looks forward to continuing its support of Hargreaves’ aim of achieving the highest standards in health and safety management across all areas of their business. The visit of Mike Robinson to the Hong Kong site reflects this commitment.”

Julie Haynes, Managing Director, Hargreaves Industrial Services, said: “As we continue to grow our international business in the power generation sector, the focus on safety remains our number one priority. We have the highest standards for health and safety, both at home and overseas and the recognition and awards we have received from the British Safety Council over the years are testament to this.”

While in Hong Kong, Mike Robinson will also meet other local business leaders to discuss various aspects of future cooperation, such as professional education and training, of which the British Safety Council is the leading provider. He will also explore the benefits of audit and consultancy for the management of operational risks and the continuous improvement of health and safety standards.
