FLIR i5 adds value to property painting
News Release from:
FLIR Systems Ltd
When value for money is expected and with the energy efficiency message uppermost in everyone's minds, craftsmen need to embrace new technology. Infrared is a great investment in this regard and in Germany a painting company relies on a FLIR i5 infrared camera to add value to its customer service.
The company Malereibetrieb Pritzl is based in Bayeri¬schzell in the Bavarian Alps and employs eight people. Customers are private house owners as well as large property companies in Bavarian cities. Pritzl is often involved in large façade finishing as well as interior decorating and building restoration projects.
Humidity on the rise
Finding an air leak near a window and showing it to the customer is certainly one of the company’s main uses for its FLIR i5. However, other applications are also becoming important. Thanks to hermetically closing windows systems and insulation for walls and doors, less energy is now being lost. Conversely however, lack of adequate ventilation leads to condensation, humidity and eventual mould build-up.
“Kilos of white paint won’t cover up moisture build up in the corner of a ceiling,” explains company owner Klaus Pritzl. “It will always stay grey.” The FLIR i5 shows the customer the exact cause of the problem. “It provides conclusive proof,” Klaus continues.
Checks the surface prior to painting
Pritzl confirms that their customers become very interested in the insulation of their home when they learn that the company has a thermal imaging camera. They often ask for a random infrared inspection of various rooms.
A good painting job also includes checking the health of the wall. So prior to painting, surfaces and especially corners are checked with the infrared camera. This shows where there is risk from humidity. Pritzl then uses the FLIR QuickReport software to generate a customer report on spots and zones that will need special treatment beyond painting.
“The novelty of infrared may have inspired us to buy the FLIR® i5 but we now really see its benefits and the opportunities the technology offers our business,” concludes Pritzl.
