MacDermid Autotype has launched a hard coated polyester film specially designed to offer antimicrobial protection for hospital surfaces. The new film, called SIGMAGraF Shield AM, combines Microban® antimicrobial technology with industrial-strength protection against solvents and cleaning chemicals. In addition, SIGMAGraF Shield AM can provide impact and abrasion resistance above ordinary laminates, ensuring that all surfaces and signage remain protected for both patients and staff at all times.

Antimicrobial film offers protection for hospital surfacesSIGMAGraF Shield AM is a heat-stabilized polyester film with a UV-cured hard coating on the front side and a pressure sensitive, acrylic adhesive on its reverse surface. The film can be combined with cladding vinyl and graphics for protection on walls, doors, counters and equipment in hygiene-critical areas. For example, door push panels can be created that are not only graphically attractive, but are also antimicrobial.

Microban® technology is incorporated into the film’s textured hard coat during manufacturing; this ensures even distribution of the antimicrobial agent throughout its surface, preventing it from washing or wearing away. Microban® technology inhibits the growth of a wide range of bacteria, fungi and moulds like MRSA, Salmonella Enteritidis, Escherichia Coli and Listeria Monocytogenes that can present health and safety risks in hospital environments.

Besides its intrinsic microbial resistance, SIGMAGraF Shield AM has excellent optical and antiglare properties because of the non-filled, microfine texture. Its unique combination of features makes the film ideal for a diverse range of hospital applications and contributes towards 'duty of care' responsibilities.
