Effective Use Of CCTV And Thermal IR Cameras For Perimeter Surveillance

News Release from: Firstsight Vision
10/10/2008

A combination of thermal infrared and CCTV cameras can provide a cost-effective solution for perimeter intruder detection and surveillance. Experts from FIRSTSIGHT VISION can offer advice on the most appropriate configuration for the particular application. Key to optimizing the system is the use of thermal infrared technology for detecting intruders and then using CCTV for identification purposes, as an alternative to the more expensive option of using many CCTV cameras equipped with motion detectors.

FIRSTSIGHT VISION can offer a wide range of thermal IR surveillance cameras from OPGAL Optronic Industries Ltd in a variety of formats. Infrared cameras allow clear differentiation of humans from background over a wide field of view and importantly, they work equally well in daylight or at night – even with zero visible light, since humans are emitting a thermal signature. Several CCTV cameras equipped with motion detectors would be required to cover the same field of view. Signals from the IR cameras can be used to drive a CCTV camera to view the location in which the intruder is detected in order to allow identification to be made. OPGAL IR cameras are available in rugged outdoor enclosures.

A wide range of high performance CCTV cameras and day/night lenses is also available from FIRSTSIGHT VISION. FIRSTSIGHT VISION’s CCTV cameras offer advanced features such as extended dynamic range and the cameras optimized sensitivity to both day and night imaging conditions. When light levels fall to a preset value, infrared sensitivity is enhanced by disabling an IR filter. When light levels increase again, the IR filter is automatically activated.
