Bitzer UK The refurbishment of the famous Fraserburgh Fish Markets was part of a civil engineering project managed by The Halcrow Group of Glasgow on behalf of the market operators, The Fraserburgh Harbour Commissioners. Star Refrigeration were appointed as principal contractors for the project which, in addition to a refrigeration installation, also included the responsibility for the coordination of all associated works including building work, insulation, electrical, fire and security systems. Star Refrigeration specified BITZER compressor receiver sets for the refrigeration requirements of two fish market buildings each of approximately 4500m3 and having an operating temperature requirement of 0º- 2°C.The market buildings were already being used for the intake and distribution of mainly white fish and prawns directly from the harbour. The first building was already insulated and partially temperature controlled and needed both the insulation and the refrigeration plant to be upgraded to meet current modern standards. The second building was not temperature controlled and new insulation and refrigeration equipment were required. The work was phased to allow fish sales to continue in the first market building whilst the second was being upgraded and vice versa. |
